Buried pt 2-Attorneys ask EPA to investigate coal ash contamination in Mooresville

July 31, 2024

In Jan of 2024, I ran across an article about a scientist in Indiana, who had found coal ash above ground, using an industrial geieger counter.

I had always been told that the scientist said this method would not work, but I don’t believe they have had the chance to test that theory in the field.

I sent that article to a group that I have worked with for years, Team Taylor Environmental Grant. Team Taylor is run by a brave mother, Susan Wind, who has been exposing the coal ash contamination in Mooresville, NC, since 2018.

Susan sent this article to Lisa Evans, of Earthjustice.

In March, Earthjustice hired an environmental company to go out with me, to test out using an industrial geiger counter, at several coal ash structural fill sites.

One of those sites was the Tutor Time daycare-Credit Union, built on 100,000 tons of coal ash. Within five minutes, we found coal ash, by the alarms going off on the geiger counter. Samples of that ash were taken.

In June, I went back to the site with Nate Morabito, of WCNC Charlotte. Nate took samples of his own, and sent them to Duke University scientist, Avner Vengosh. We are awaiting the results of those samples, for radiation and heavy metals.
