Politicians Hide Coal Ash Sites from Public

In 2019, the NC-DEQ sent an e-mail to Senator Vickie Sawyer, Rep John Fraley, and Mooresville Mayor Miles Atkins.
This e-mail contained a spreadsheet, with a list of 450 coal ash structural fills. This list has never been released to the public.

In Feb of 2019, the NC Dept of Environmental Quality sent an e-mail to Senator Vickie Sawyer, Rep John Fraley, and Mooresville Mayor Miles Atkins.

This e-mail contained a spreadsheet, with a list of 450 coal ash structural fills, in the eleven counties under regulation of the NC-DEQ Mooresville Regional Office.

The coal ash structural fill records date from 1993.

In 2024, CCA-NC was finally able obtain those spreadsheets.

The newly obtained coal ash fill records include an elementary school, and coal ash across from a park.

We are still waiting for Senator Sawyer, Rep Fraley, ex-mayor Atkins, to warn the public.

A new map for coal ash in North Carolina is under construction, and the new sites will be there. Note some of the new fills are normal coal ash structural fills, and some are coal ash flowable fills, using coal ash and mill rejects.
