Radiation Levels at SouthLake Christian Academy – Huntersville NC

These are Radiation Levels, detected at Southlake Christian Academy in Huntersville, North Carolina. The Academy is located just outside McGuire Nuclear Station on Lake Norman and we wanted to test the school for any evidence of elevated radiation levels. With the Academy being so close to the power station, we were concerned some coal ash may have been used as fill dirt on school grounds. Fortunately, we did not find any evidence of elevated radiation levels. Overall readings are normal, falling within the range of expected background radiation levels, and ranging from 5.1µR/h to 7.75µR/h across the school property. We were very happy to see these results.

The Gamma Radiation Level Tracks are created with ‘RadiaCode 103’ detection devices. Each colored dot represents a Radiation detection(dose rate), in microroentgens per hour. We use these detections to pinpoint Hot Spots, where Coal Ash is closer to the surface, within Coal Ash Fill Sites. Click on each dot to see the level detected. Radiation Levels range from Purple(Lowest per Track), then Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red(Highest per Track). On each Map you can deselect the Layers (Individual Tracks) to more easily see the Highest and Lowest detection points of each Track.
