Radiation Levels at ‘Tutor Time’ Daycare – Mooresville NC

These are Radiation Levels, detected at ‘Tutor Time’ Daycare in Mooresville, North Carolina. After following state and Duke Energy records of Coal Ash being used as Fill Dirt during construction of this business park, we attempted to find the Hot Spots, using a Geiger Counter. We hoped the Geiger Counter would detect higher levels of radiation where Coal Ash might be closer to the surface, than it should be by regulation(a required depth of 18 inches). Sure enough, in March of 2024 we discovered extremely High levels of radiation, a dose rate of up to 22µR/h, just feet from the Daycare’s Playground. Digging down just 4 inches into the soil, coal ash was found.

Since that initial discovery in March, there have been Lab Tests of the found ash, with results showing Radium levels up to 4 times higher than safe, and many other toxic chemicals including arsenic. Just feet from where this sample was taken, children continued to play. Since the initial findings we have continued to make tracks with the Geiger Counter, taking readings that reached up to 30µR/h. These are very High levels and very expected results, knowing the coal ash was placed here. It’s not a place where children should be playing. Parents, be warned.

The Gamma Radiation Level Tracks are created with ‘RadiaCode 103’ detection devices. Each colored dot represents a Radiation detection(dose rate), in microroentgens per hour. We use these detections to pinpoint Hot Spots, where Coal Ash is closer to the surface, within Coal Ash Fill Sites. Click on each dot to see the level detected. Radiation Levels range from Purple(Lowest per Track), then Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red(Highest per Track). On each Map you can deselect the Layers (Individual Tracks) to more easily see the Highest and Lowest detection points of each Track.
